Key Points: Project Perspectives

• Project Perspectives allow the user to filter which objects are visible in a Project, making it easier to work with larger projects.
• Static perspectives allow you to select all the individual object(s) you want included in a perspective.
• Dynamic perspectives allow you to select an object, then dynamically include all objects that "feed" into this object.

Key Steps: Project Perspectives

1. Open Project Perspectives in the Solution Explorer
2. Add and name the new perspective
3. Select the objects to include in the perspective. (optional) Select Dynamic to enable auto selection of dependencies.
4. Select OK to finish. When in use, you will see "(active)" after the perspective name

Understanding Project Perspectives

Project Perspectives make it easier to work in large projects by "filtering" the objects within a project. A project perspective is a subset of the project objects that relate to a specific area or task. For example, you could create a “finance” perspective that contains all the tables, dimensions and cubes that are related to finance. When this perspective is active, anything else will be hidden.

A perspective can be static or dynamic. In dynamic project perspectives , any object that is related to an object already in the perspective will be included in the perspective. This is very useful if you have e.g. a SSAS Multidimensional cube, semantic model or Qlik model for sales and want to see the tables, fields etc. related to that. Creating a dynamic perspective based on the cube or model will give you that overview in seconds.
