Exercise: Create Global Databases

Creating global databases for both the Data Staging Area (DSA) and the Modern Data Warehouse (MDW) will allow for multiple environments to access the same data. For more detailed information, please see Configure Global Databases.

Steps:

Create Global Database for DSA

  1. In the Tools menu select Environment Properties
  2. Click New Global Database
  3. Type in DSA in the Name box
  4. Select Data Warehouse in the Type drop-down list and click OK
  5. Click the settings text box
  6. Type localhost in the Server text box
  7. Type TX_DSA_DEV in the Catalog text box
  8. Right click the settings text box, select Create Database and click OK, when notified of successful creation


Create Global Database for MDW

  1. Click New Global Database
  2. Type in MDW in the Name box
  3. Select Data Warehouse in the Type drop-down list and click OK
  4. Click the settings text box
  5. Type localhost in the Server text box
  6. Type TX_MDW_DEV in the Catalog text box
  7. Select Matching Server value for the Direct Read Option
  8. Right click the settings text box, select Create Database and click OK, when notified of successful creation
  9. Click OK to save the Environment Settings
